Rick Scott has signed into law a bill that will see an increase in Medicaid reimbursement for mothers and babies, the AP reports.
The "Live Healthy" bill (SB 7016, 7018), which was signed into law Thursday, increases Medicaid reimbursement for mothers and babies by $134 million, which Ascension Health, the state's second-largest Catholic hospital chain, says will allow it to provide more care to low-income Florida residents.
The chain says it plans to use the money to expand medical residency programs at its hospitals in the state's Panhandle, which has some of the nation's lowest infant mortality rates.
The bill was signed by Scott, who said in a statement that the bill is an example of the state's commitment to "investing in a healthier and more stable Florida."
The Florida Legislature passed the bill earlier this year.
