In only 4 weeks, a previously unknown social entrepreneur challenged herself to raise $15,000 dollars for her project, and met her goal. Lauren Shuttleworth utilized two prominent platforms, Start Some Good and ING's Direct Dreamstarter, to raise enough money to start her brand of environmentally friendly stationary, with part of her profits being donated to women's education.
Her story, while impressive, is not alone; many budding entrepreneurs are turning to the power of digital platforms to raise seed money for their projects. By radically broadening their reach to people they may have normally never met, someone with a great idea can raise funds much easier than before, and much more effectively and faster as well. ING Direct's program has in fact raised over $644,000 dollars and assisted 44 startups; proof that "social fundraising" is poised to continue to grow.
