The U.S.
Department of Energy has launched a major initiative to combat climate change.
It has offered up to $1.8bn in funding to support the development and commercialisation of direct air capture (DAC) technologies.
The funding initiative is part of the DOE's Regional DAC Hubs program, which aims to create a nationwide ecosystem of DAC facilities and supporting infrastructure.
