"Make sustainable business travel the new norm."
That's the lofty goal of Dutch startup Fynch Mobility, which has just received $1 million in funding from investors including Google parent Alphabet, CNBC reports.
According to a press release, more than a third of the global CO2 footprint is associated with work-related travel, and roughly half of that is work-related.
Fynch Mobility's solution is to reward employees for sustainably traveled mileage.
The company's app then calculates CO2 emissions from a company's car fleet and posts the data to an app that employers can use to determine how to reduce those emissions.
"More and more organizations are discovering that getting mobility right ensures cost efficiency, employer attractiveness, and CO2 reduction," Fynch Mobility co-founder Serge van den Berg says.
The funding will be used to scale the company's software platform for business-to-business (B2B) travel.
"In an increasingly complex world, mobility should be synonymous with freedom to travel from A to B, flexible, and sustainable," van den Berg says.
"The Carbon Tracker is an example of innovation, sustainability, and convenience coming together."
